Kaantha (also spelled as Qanta) is a type of embroidery typical of eastern South Asia, often practiced by rural women.

The traditional form of Kaantha embroidery is done using soft, often used, dhotis (men’s sarongs) and saris.

These are made with two or more pieces of fabric that are stacked on each other and hand-stitched together with a running stitch, often creating geometric patterns and shapes on the fabric. Many of these fabrics are old (sometimes, decades old) and when they are repurposed and upcycled, their age offers a distinct character that is simply striking.

Each product is unique! The uniqueness comes from the character provided by the age of the fabrics, the almost signature-like hand-stitch of each artisan and the liberating patterns generated by the creative mood of the artisan.

Each side provides a colorful surprise to the other. As a result, these products can be used in multiple ways, either to provide balance, a certain nuance or a focal point to your space.
